What you should know about Saena Seed Project
Frequently asked questions
General
Our main focuses are:
Soil Health - We employ practices such as reduced tillage, companion planting, composting, cover-cropping, crop-rotation, water conservation, and pollinator/wildlife habitat as a bare minimum in exchange for cultivating and profiting from the land
Cultural Preservation - We offer a space and support for other folks from various backgrounds to connect with the seed that is culturally relevant to them
Biodiversity - Our project aims to increase biodiversity by taking a piece of land that was neglected, overgrazed, and mono-cropped over the last 50 years, and turning it into a diverse polyculture with a living soil-food-web
Education - To share the knowledge that has been passed down to us from our mentors with other folks who are interested in farming as a career, seed work, cultural preservation, and beyond.
Access to Land - To sublease out the majority of the land we're on to other farmers/graziers so that we can get more farmers on the land, for the benefit of all parties involved, and the land itself.
